Course description :
Open University of Mauritius, also referred to as “OU”, is a public university established on 12 July 2012 under the Open University ACT 2010. OU became the first ISO-Certified public university in Mauritius in July 2015. OU delivers courses through the Open Distance Learning mode (ODL). With flexible study options, OU students can study from home, work, or anywhere in the world. Courses range from short Employability Skills courses to Undergraduate and Postgraduate ones, including PhD and DBA. OU conducted its first graduation ceremony on 8 July 2015 and the Nobel Prize Laureate in Literature (2008), Dr J M G Le Clézio, was awarded the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa by the Open University on that day. The University is a public university set up by an Act of Parliament and has full awarding powers. The Academic Council of the Open University of Mauritius oversees and approves all programmes. OU is a member of: (i) International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE), http://www.icde.org/en/about/membership/members_of_icde/member_institutions/Africa.9UFRrOWs.ips (ii) African Council for Distance Education (iii) Association of Commonwealth Universities The headquarters of OU are in Réduit and they comprise the Academic Affairs Division, Admissions Unit, Examination Unit, Graphics, Printing and Publishing Dept, Marketing and Public Relations Unit, Central Administration, Library, HR Unit, Finance, Stores and Procurement Dept, Audiovisual Production Unit, Engineering Services Unit, IT Unit and Student Affairs Unit. OU campus is at Curepipe at: Louis Pasteur Street, Forest Side (near stadium). The campus is fully WIFI enabled and has a number of classrooms to enable face to face sessions. OU branch Library and a gymnasium are also situated there. Face to face sessions are also conducted in selected classrooms in OU’s headquarters at Réduit. The objects of OU are to:  advance and disseminate learning and knowledge through a diversity of means, with emphasis on information and communication technologies;  provide wider opportunities for education and training to the population, through open and distance learning, and promote lifelong learning;  encourage the use of open and distance learning at all levels of education and training.
